About Jarrett
Jarrett Bertoncin has a passion for design, both on stage and for fireplaces. He feels it is important that good design adds both visually and emotionally to the story and surroundings. Every design tells a story. To fully realize that story, Jarrett collaborates with directors, homeowners, designers, architects, and craftsman.
Jarrett grew up with the family business, Fireside on the Plaza. He worked weekends and summers installing gas logs and glass doors learning the fireplace industry from the bottom up.
Jarrett’s passion for theatre design sparked in high school where he started building scenery and hanging lights. Jarrett earned a Masters of Fine Arts degree in Design with an emphasis on Scenic Design and Lighting Design for Theatre at University of Missouri Kansas City. He started designing professionally in 1993. This was the start of JSB Designs. He is the resident lighting designer at the Coterie Theatre and teaches lighting at Olathe South High School.
As one of a handfull of custom gas log designers across the country, Jarrett is constantly pushing fireplace furnishing design, pushing manufactures to design differently so he can achieve the look and function a fireplace deserves and the client enjoys. His designs range from contemporary to classic, always meeting the client’s desires. Jarrett’s designs can be seen around the country for both theatre and fireplaces.
Jarrett is actively involved in the community. He is past president of the UMKC Arts & Sciences Alumni board. He is also on staff of the Commemorative Air Force, working at the local level and on the national level. A non-for-profit the CAF teaches history through flight.
